All security aides assigned to Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mojisola Meranda have been withdrawn, The Punch reports.
As of Thursday morning, police officers and other security personnel attached to the speaker were no longer on duty, according to the news outlet.
A source confirmed the situation, saying, “All the Speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn. All the security aides attached to the House of Assembly have also been withdrawn.” The source expressed concern, noting that “the Speaker is now vulnerable.”
The withdrawal comes amid speculation that Meranda may step down from her position.
Her spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, also confirmed the development, stating, “We don’t know why the authorities have done that, but all the police officers and other security details attached to her have been withdrawn. She’s on her own at the moment.”
