Akwa Ibom Women Protest Against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Allegations Against Akpabio

Women in Akwa Ibom State staged a protest in Uyo on March 1, 2025, condemning sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The protesters, carrying placards with messages like “Natasha, don’t disrespect our son again,” accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of attempting to tarnish Akpabio’s reputation. They demanded that she retract her claims and warned her against further actions they deemed disrespectful.

The controversy began on February 20, 2025, during a Senate session when Akpoti-Uduaghan discovered her seat had been changed without her consent, leading to a confrontation with Akpabio. She later accused him of sexually harassing her on two occasions.

Reacting to her allegations, Akwa Ibom women took to the streets in solidarity with Akpabio. One protester said, “We are out here today to tell you, Natasha, that our son is so precious to us. In this area, we respect our men; we don’t disrespect them.”

The situation has sparked mixed reactions, with some criticizing Akpoti-Uduaghan while others have called for a thorough investigation to uphold the integrity of the Senate.
