President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a subsidy on kidney dialysis, reducing the cost for Nigerians from N50,000 to N12,000. The subsidy is being implemented at federal medical institutions across the six geopolitical zones.

Participating hospitals include FMC Ebute-Metta, FMC Jabi, UCH Ibadan, FMC Owerri, UMTH Maiduguri, FMC Abeokuta, LUTH Lagos, FMC Azare, UBTH Benin, and UCTH Calabar.

The initiative was launched in January at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where patients have expressed relief and satisfaction. Officials say the subsidy has significantly improved access to treatment, with 35 patients benefiting since its launch.
