A Lagos High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has prohibited the public viewing and streaming of the controversial film Gangs of Lagos.

The ban was issued in a consent judgment delivered by Justice Idowu Alakija, following an agreement between parties in the case filed by the Isale Eko Descendants Union against Amazon Web Services and 11 others.

The court upheld the applicants’ claim that the movie misrepresented and disrespected the cultural heritage of the revered Eyo Masquerade and the longstanding traditions of the Isale-Eko people.

Justice Alakija ordered the defendants to issue a formal apology, acknowledging that the film inaccurately depicted the Eyo Masquerade and Isale-Eko community.
