Controversial social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded to the arrest warrant issued against him over allegations of defaming gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Magistrate Court ordered his arrest on Thursday, March 13, 2025, after he failed to appear in court on March 5 despite being summoned.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, VDM dismissed the warrant as a “power play,” questioning how such an order could be issued while he is currently in China.

He accused Mercy Chinwo of using the case to bring him down and divert attention from her legal battle with her former manager, Ezekiel Thankgod Onyedikachukwu, also known as EeZee Tee.

“The court ordered my arr33t because of Mercy Chinwo. I no send anybody papa. I am coming to Naija soon, still working on deals for the benefit of our youths and empowerment. We don too suffer,” he wrote.

VDM also suggested that Mercy Chinwo had withheld key details of her case, saying:

“@mercychinwo, till today nobody don see the part 2 of your story. You posted part one only. Why? Did I spoil the show too early?”

Despite the court’s order, the outspoken critic has made it clear that he has no plans to acknowledge the warrant or appear in court anytime soon.

The controversy began after VDM accused Mercy of withholding information about her fallout with EeZee Tee, among other claims. In response, the singer issued a legal notice demanding that he apologize and delete all defamatory videos.

Rather than complying, VDM mocked the demand, singing Mercy’s songs and releasing his own tracks addressing the “Body of Christ.”
