Lady Slams Police Over Father’s Health Crisis, Calls for Justice

A Nigerian woman has publicly criticized the police and government over the lack of support for her ailing father, a retired officer, who has been battling stroke and brain damage for a year.

In an emotional video message, she expressed frustration at the system, revealing that the police department only donated ₦10,000 to her father despite his 25 years of service. She said the illness had forced her family to sell property and land to cover medical expenses, while the government remained unresponsive to their pleas for help.

“We have gone to his office to cry, to beg. But still, nothing has been done,” she lamented.

She also urged security operatives to reflect on the hardships faced by the families of fallen officers and widows, stressing that the struggle for a better government benefits everyone.

“If things work for us, it works for everyone… Because you are a police officer, you will not buy a cup of rice for ₦100. It’s the same ₦400 or ₦500 we are buying that you will buy too,” she stated.

The woman further criticized the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), calling it a “scam” that only covers 40 percent of medical expenses. She warned that unless systemic changes were made, the children of affected officers could turn to crime or prostitution out of desperation.

Calling for unity, she urged officers to put down their rifles and demand justice alongside civilians.

“Before you help Nigeria, know that that woman will be your wife. That will be the condition of your wife if you do not do the right thing,” she said, emphasizing the need for police officers to stand with the people rather than against them.

She concluded by calling for a movement to address the neglect of officers and their families, urging others to join in demanding a fairer system.
