CNG Tanker Explosion Near Karu Bridge Leaves Several Feared Dead in Abuja

Several people are feared dead following the explosion of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tanker near Karu Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

A video obtained by our correspondent captured a voice urgently calling for help, reporting that the tanker had exploded, trapping and burning motorists.

Witnesses said the accident occurred when the truck lost control near Karu Bridge, located between Kugbo and Nyanya on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) confirmed the incident, stating that the explosion happened around 7:14 p.m. The agency’s Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mark Nyam, explained that the driver lost control, crashing into other vehicles before the explosion.

Emergency responders, including FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency, were deployed to the scene for rescue operations.
