Embattled NYSC member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, has announced the end of her advocacy against rising living costs in Nigeria. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed disappointment over her inability to sustain the movement she started, citing threats and a lack of national unity as key reasons for stepping back.

Raye first gained attention for speaking out about Nigeria’s escalating prices, including the controversial tariff hikes by MTN and Airtel. Her bold stance resonated with many Nigerians struggling with inflation, but it also drew backlash, including pressure from NYSC officials who reportedly tried to silence her.

Reflecting on her journey, she wrote, “I feel so ashamed that I haven’t been able to continue the movement with the same energy I had in the first three days, especially due to the threats I’ve received.”

She lamented the persistent rise in prices, sharing her frustration after another encounter with inflated costs: “I went out to buy drinks again today, and once again, yesterday’s price is not today’s price.”

Despite receiving advice to endure the situation until she could leave the country, Raye questioned, “But what if I want to stay here? What if I don’t want to leave?” She also expressed hope for a future where Nigerians stand together, saying, “That will be the day we finally experience the change we deserve.”

In her caption, she reassured supporters that she appreciated their love but admitted disappointment in how easily Nigerians become distracted and divided. “I will be dropping this and going back to my normal life. I hope one day again, someone else will make a change,” she wrote.

Raye’s experience highlights the challenges faced by young Nigerians advocating for change in a tough economic and social climate. Her story underscores the urgent need for a more unified and supportive environment where voices like hers can push for meaningful reforms without fear of intimidation.
