Akpabio Denies Claims of $15,000 Bribe to Senators Over Rivers Emergency

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed reports alleging that Senators received a $15,000 bribe to support the proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The rumours claimed that lawmakers were given $5,000 on Tuesday and an additional $10,000 on Wednesday at Akpabio’s Maitama residence during their Ramadan fast-breaking, just before voting on the matter.

Reacting to the allegations, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, refuted the claims, stating: “Since Senator Godswill Akpabio assumed office as Senate President, he has been hosting Ramadan fast-breaking gatherings. He did it last year, he did it this year, so why is this turning into a rumour?”

Eyiboh added: “On the issue of the dollars—he is giving the money for what? I am aware of the breaking of the fast, but I can tell you I am not aware, and it is not true, whether $5,000 or $10,000. People are just conjuring this to add flavour to their malice and hate campaign.”
