Protests Erupt in Rivers as Women Demand Fubara’s Reinstatement

Protests have broken out in Rivers State as women take to the streets, demanding the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, just four days after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.

A viral post on X, formerly Twitter, shows a large crowd of women marching with placards in support of Fubara, calling for his return to office.

The demonstration comes after President Tinubu suspended Fubara and his deputy, appointing a sole administrator to take control of the state.

Fubara was suspended on March 18, 2025, amid escalating political tensions and instability, which reportedly crippled governance and threatened national security.

Citing Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, Tinubu declared a state of emergency, removing Fubara, his deputy, and all state legislators from office. Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas was appointed as the state’s sole administrator.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some condemning it as a blow to democracy, while others see it as a necessary step to restore order.
