Amid escalating tensions between the warring communities of Ilobu and Ifon, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has extended the existing curfew to Erin-Osun town.

Additionally, the governor has increased the curfew duration from 12 hours to a full 24 hours daily to safeguard lives and property across the state.

He has also directed all security agencies, including the Military, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Immigration, NDLEA, and Amotekun, to enhance security surveillance in the affected areas and ensure strict enforcement of the curfew.

The decision aims to prevent further violence and a breakdown of law and order amid the ongoing communal clashes.

Announcing the governor’s directive in a statement on Saturday, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi expressed Adeleke’s deep concern over the renewed crisis.

“The curfew on Ifon-Ilobu communities has now been extended to Erin-Osun until further notice,” the statement read.

Governor Adeleke, saddened by the escalating conflict, stressed the importance of restoring peace.

“To ensure the crisis is curbed, the governor has approved the extension of the curfew to Erin-Osun, effective immediately (March 22, 2025), with a 24-hour restriction until further notice,” the statement added.

He also expressed sympathy for the lives lost and property destroyed, vowing that those responsible would face justice.

“Osun State is a land of peace and harmony, and the government will not allow this to be disrupted. This communal clash must end now, and we will ensure that happens.

“I urge everyone to embrace the Omoluabi ethos, shun violence, and live together in peace as brothers and sisters,” the statement concluded.
