Retired Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga, former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been freed after spending 56 days in captivity. Tsiga was abducted on February 5, 2025, in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, alongside nine others.

After a ransom was paid by his family, Tsiga remained in the kidnappers’ hold for several more weeks, with reports of additional demands for money. Despite this, his release was finally secured, though the full ransom details remain unclear.

A senior military official confirmed that Tsiga is in good health and has been transferred from Zamfara State to Abuja. His family expressed their relief and gratitude, marking the end of a harrowing ordeal.

Tsiga’s kidnapping highlights the persistent security concerns in Nigeria’s northern region, where abductions for ransom are all too common. His safe return brings some comfort to his loved ones amid the ongoing crisis.
