Afrobeats sensation Davido has spoken about the booming global interest in Nigerian culture, revealing that Lagos is quickly becoming a major destination for international visitors — especially Americans.

In a recent interview, the music star expressed surprise at the number of foreigners who flocked to Lagos during the festive season, sharing a moment of disbelief. “Last December, there were more Americans than Nigerians in Lagos, bro. I was like, what are you doing here?” he said.

Davido reflected on how the trend has reversed compared to the past, when Nigerians were eager to move abroad, particularly to the U.S. “Back in the day, we used to be like, ‘We’re going to America!’ Now it’s like, ‘We ain’t got time, bro!’” he added with a laugh.

He went on to praise the rise of African influence in the global creative scene, particularly in fashion. “If you go to Paris Fashion Week, bro, I’m telling you, like 80% of the models — African. 80% of the creative directors,” he noted.

According to Davido, African culture — spanning music, fashion, and creativity — is now claiming its rightful place on the global stage.
