President John Dramani Mahama has warned the members of his cabinet in no uncertain terms that any minister who will fail to meet his or her mandate will be dismissed on the spot. The drastic declaration is a reflection of the President’s new resolve for improved governance, accountability, and tangible achievement by the people of Ghana.

Speaking at a senior-level government retreat in Accra, President Mahama reminded the ministers that they must exercise leadership, competence, and result-oriented management in the ministries. He observed that Ghanaian people deserve and expect greater public services, economic growth, and transparency and that these need to be provided without apology.

“I was elected to work in the interest of Ghanaians, not to provide excuses for non-performance. Every minister should know that this government will not accept complacency or mediocrity,” President Mahama declared. “Those who fail to achieve performance targets will be replaced.”
