Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his mission to champion the welfare of Nigerians, stating emphatically that his political engagements are not driven by rivalry with President Bola Tinubu, but by a resolute commitment to fighting the nation’s most urgent social and economic challenges—hunger, poor education, and inadequate healthcare.

Speaking during a recent public appearance, Obi addressed growing speculation around his stance on current national leadership, clarifying that his criticism of the federal government stems from a deep concern for the millions of Nigerians living in poverty and without access to basic services.

“I and the president are not fighting. I’m not fighting anybody. My fight is against bad governance, against hunger, against poverty, against out-of-school children, against people not having health services,” Obi said.

Obi lamented that Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, continues to slide down global development indices, noting alarming statistics on food insecurity, rising out-of-school children, and underfunded health institutions. He stressed that these challenges demand urgent action, not political distractions.

“This is not about opposition politics,” he continued. “It is about leadership that prioritizes people. We must redirect our national focus towards investing in human capital, revitalizing agriculture, reforming education, and making healthcare accessible to all.”
