A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has issued a strong warning to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regarding ongoing coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sowunmi cautioned that the coalition appears to be a strategic move to exploit Obi’s popularity rather than a genuine effort to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics, Sowunmi emphasized that the PDP must take decisive steps to bring Obi back into its fold, arguing that his organic support base could be instrumental in revitalizing the party’s chances in 2027.
Sowunmi expressed skepticism about the proposed coalition, which reportedly includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El-Rufai, and other opposition figures. According to reports, Atiku has allegedly offered to make Obi his running mate and hand over power after one year.
