President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos ahead of the highly anticipated 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The President’s aircraft touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at approximately 4:15 PM, where he was warmly received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior government officials.

As the current Chairman of ECOWAS, President Tinubu will host fellow Heads of State and Government at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and Eko Hotels and Suites, where key events will commemorate the regional bloc’s golden jubilee.

A highlight of the celebration will be a symbolic reenactment of the 1975 ECOWAS declaration at the NIIA, featuring retired General Yakubu Gowon, the only surviving signatory of the original treaty. General Gowon will also deliver a keynote address at Eko Hotels, reflecting on ECOWAS’s five-decade journey and its impact on regional integration.
