President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday issued a resolute warning to the developers against encroaching on the designated setbacks of the newly commissioned Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Speaking at the inauguration of the highway’s initial 30-kilometer in Lekki, Lagos, President Tinubu emphasized the federal government’s commitment to enforcing the law.

“At this stage, I must unequivocally caution all developers,” President Tinubu stated. “The Federal Government will rigorously enforce the setbacks; this action is paramount for the national interest.”

Setbacks, defined as the mandatory distance a structure must maintain from a road or property line, typically range from 3 to 9 meters. These regulations are enforced by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) AND The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

The president made it clear that the construction of any buildings or structures within these designated setbacks around the highway will not be tolerated. He also called upon citizens to recognize their responsibility in safeguarding public infrastructure.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Minister of Finance Wale Edun and Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Hope Uzodimma, Dapo Abiodun, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, among other dignitaries.
