The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to disregard public criticism and allocate additional funds for ongoing infrastructure projects, including the ambitious Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Speaking at the official commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos, Umahi emphasized the importance of continued investment in national development.

“I want to assure you, sir, that the international financiers have given you kudos because they say the project is even undervalued. I commend you very highly, and I am grateful for the support,” Umahi stated. “Sir, don’t listen to people. Give us more money; we will deliver all these projects, sir. We will deliver.”

The minister’s remarks come amid concerns over the cost and transparency of the 700km Lagos-Calabar highway project. Addressing these concerns, Umahi defended the valuation and technical complexities involved in the construction, highlighting the necessity of the project for economic growth.

President Tinubu, in response, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, dismissing critics of the highway project. “I appeal to you, David (Umahi): don’t listen to those critics; they don’t know what they’re talking about. If they don’t like the road or it’s too expensive, toll it for them,” Tinubu remarked.
