Kemi Badenoch Proposed a New Law Immigration Rules, Extending British Citizenship Waiting Period

UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has unveiled a new immigration proposal that would require immigrants to wait 10 years before becoming eligible for British citizenship. The proposal aims to tighten immigration policies and ensure that only those who make significant contributions to the UK economy can obtain British passports.

Under the proposed law, the waiting period for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) would increase from five years to ten years. Immigrants would then need to wait an additional five years after obtaining ILR before applying for British citizenship, making the total waiting period 15 years.

Badenoch emphasized that the policy is designed to uphold fairness for British citizens, ensuring that immigrants contribute to the economy before receiving benefits or citizenship. The proposal also includes stricter rules, such as barring individuals with criminal records from settling in the UK and preventing those who enter illegally from ever obtaining residency or a passport.
