Alade Market Sealed off, as Lagos State Government Continues Crackdown on Filthy Markets

The Lagos State Government has sealed off the popular Alade market in the Onigbongbo Local Council Area of Ikeja, over violation of environmental laws.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adeshina, disclosed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the post, the directive was issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab.

The state government say the Alade market was shut down due to 5 main reasons:

Lack of waste bin
Filthy environment
Illegal burning of refuse by the roadside
Indiscriminate dumping of refuse
Failure to comply with the rules of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

The sealing off of the Alade Market is part of the renewed crackdown on dirty and filthy markets by the state government, with several other markets including Alaba, Ladipo, Owode Onirin, Mile 12, among others also suffering similar fate.
