Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that the state will host Africa’s first-ever E1 Championship on October 4 and 5, 2025.

The governor made this known in a statement via his official X account on Sunday.

The series was co-founded by Formula E and Extreme E visionary Alejandro Agag and former Ferrari and McLaren F1 executive Rodi Basso.

The E1 Championship is the world’s first all-electric powerboat series, aimed at promoting clean energy and marine sustainability.

The E1 Championship, officially known as the UIM E1 World Championship, is an international marine racing series featuring electric-powered raceboats known as RaceBirds.
