Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has rolled out a new dress code policy aimed at curbing what it describes as “indecent dressing” on campus.
The university administration says the move is meant to maintain academic decorum, especially in classrooms and formal university spaces.
According to the new guidelines, students are prohibited from wearing the following:Revealing outfits such as crop tops, off-shoulder tops, mini-skirts, and transparent clothing.
Sagging trousers, a style often associated with street fashion. “Unconventional” or “distracting” hairstyles—this includes brightly dyed hair, certain dreadlocks, and sharp, edgy haircuts.
Excessive accessories or makeup deemed unsuitable for an academic setting.
Students are expected to present themselves in a manner the university deems “responsible and respectful of the learning environment.”
