Commuters stranded as NLC, TUC Block Entrance to Abuja Airport

Commuters on their way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport were today left stranded as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) barricaded the entrance to the airport.

The workers who blocked the entry and exit to and from the airport say the move is part of actions to protest last week’s attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo State.

The union members stormed the airport around 8:58 a.m., grounding aviation activities in one of the country’s busiest airports, with the primary goal being to block flights going to Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The protesting labour members had attempted to enter the airport but were stopped by the military at the checkpoint.

As a result of the refusal, they blocked the entry and exit points of the airport, causing heavy traffic of vehicles on both sides, thereby forcing travellers to make their way into the airport on foot.
