Federal Government Approves N25 Billion Allocation to Boost Healthcare Infrastructure Nationwide

The Federal Government has given the green light for the disbursement of N25 billion from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to bolster healthcare infrastructure across various states in Nigeria.

Prof. Muhammed Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, disclosed this pivotal development during the sixth meeting of the BHCPF Ministerial Oversight Committee convened in Abuja on Saturday.

Pate underscored that the earmarked funds are specifically earmarked for direct facility financing and workforce incentives across different states, aligning closely with President Bola Tinubu‘s unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare outcomes for Nigerian women, children, and vulnerable segments of society.

The minister stressed that the disbursement process will be facilitated through established gateways, including the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

“This significant investment underscores our unwavering dedication to fortifying healthcare infrastructure and bolstering our healthcare workforce,” affirmed Pate. “In addition to direct facility financing and workforce incentives, a segment of the funds will be channeled through the NHIA to provide financial security for the most economically disadvantaged and marginalized communities, thereby ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.”

Pate also unveiled the implementation of a specialized reporting mechanism empowering citizens to flag any instances of misappropriation or deviation from established guidelines in the allocation of these funds, thus ensuring transparency and accountability in the utilization of healthcare resources.

Dr. Oyebanji Filani, representing Commissioners for Health and Human Services, reiterated the states’ unwavering commitment to prioritizing the delivery of quality care to all Nigerians.
