A case brought forth by Oyo Mesi, the kingmakers in Oyo, against Governor Seyi Makinde and other state officials regarding the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo has been struck out by an High Court sitting in Awe.
The suit, filed in response to the vacancy left by the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III after a 52-year reign, was dismissed due to an administrative defect.
In the suit, numbered HOY/14/2023, the claimants included prominent figures such as the Bashorun of Oyo, Chief Yusuf Layinka; Lagunna of Oyo, Chief Wakeel Oyedepo; Akinniku of Oyo, Chief Amusa Yusuf; Areago Bashorun, Chief Wahab Oyetunji; and the Alapo of Oyo, Chief Gbadebo Mufutau.
Justice Ladiran Akintola, ruling on a notice of preliminary objection filed by the defendants, stated that there was no evidence of service to inform the Governor of the selection process outcome conducted by the kingmakers.
As a result of the failure to serve notice to the Governor, the court dismissed the case.
