Femi Adebayo wins copyright violation battle against online TV

Femi Adebayo, a renowned actor and filmmaker, has secured a landmark victory in a copyright infringement case against Murfy Ben International, a YouTube channel.

On Tuesday, May 7, Adebayo announced that he had been awarded N25 million in damages, a significant triumph for him and the entire Nollywood industry.

The legal battle began in 2021 when Adebayo took legal action against Murfy Ben International for unauthorized use of his movie titles and posters.

The defendant had deceitfully used the title of Adebayo’s 2019 film, “Survival of Jelili,” to promote an older movie, “Kodi Ologbon-Aye,” released in 2015, aiming to confuse fans and divert revenue meant for Adebayo.

Adebayo expressed his gratitude to his legal team, Bola Adebowale & Co Legal Practitioners, for their expertise and tireless efforts in handling the case.

He emphasized the crucial importance of protecting intellectual property rights and combating piracy in the entertainment industry.

This victory sets a significant precedent for future cases and marks a major milestone in the fight against IP theft.

In his statement, Adebayo said, “This victory is not just for me, but for all of Nollywood. We must be willing to fight against piracy and IP theft at all levels. Every win brings us closer to protecting and receiving the true economic value of our work.”
