At least 12 people were injured when a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Ireland encountered turbulence while flying over Turkey.

The flight, QR017, landed safely in Dublin on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 1 p.m. local time (1200 GMT).

Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including airport police and fire and rescue teams.

Six passengers and six crew members reported injuries, which were likely caused by the turbulence.

The Dublin Airport team is providing full assistance to passengers and airline staff on the ground. This includes medical attention and support for those affected by the incident.

This incident comes just a week after a Singapore Airlines flight, SQ321, experienced severe turbulence last Tuesday.

The flight was diverted to Bangkok for an emergency landing, resulting in the death of a British man and injuries to over 100 people. Passengers and crew suffered severe injuries, including skull, brain, and spine injuries, when they were thrown around the cabin during the high-altitude ordeal. Several people are still being treated in hospital in Bangkok.

In response to the incident, Singapore Airlines has tightened its seatbelt rules to ensure passenger safety.

Air safety experts warn that passengers are often too casual about wearing seatbelts, leaving them at risk if the plane hits unexpected turbulence.

Scientists also warn that clear air turbulence, which is invisible to radar, is getting worse due to climate change.

These incidents highlight the importance of prioritizing safety and following safety guidelines during air travel.
