Tension is high in Aba, Abia State, following a reported shootout between gunmen enforcing the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) sit-at-home order and soldiers at Obikabia Junction.

According to Sahara Reporters, the incident resulted in the death of two soldiers, although this has not been confirmed by the military or police.

The gunmen also set a military patrol vehicle and nearby shops ablaze.

Videos of the incident show a soldier seeking refuge in a shop as the patrol van burns, with a voice in the background expressing concern for his safety.

Another video shows a group of armed men, dressed in warfare gear, shooting and pursuing soldiers at the junction.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots in the area, with one eyewitness confirming the attack to SaharaReporters.

The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident but referred further inquiries to the military.

The Army spokesperson, Lt. Prince Innocent Omale, also confirmed the attack but did not provide details, stating that they are investigating the incident and will provide information once available.
