Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has urged Nigerians to resist attempts by desperate politicians to divide them along religious and ethnic lines, especially during the election season.

Receiving the 2024 Courageous Citizen Award in Abuja, Obi emphasized that the high voter turnout in the 2023 general elections showed Nigerians are united in their desire for a new Nigeria, beyond tribal, linguistic, or religious differences.

He acknowledged the support from various ethnic groups and elder statesmen, dispelling notions of inter-ethnic hatred.

Peter Obi cautioned against selfish and divisive politics, quoting a Greek philosopher who categorized people into three groups: idiots (selfish and self-centered), private citizens (indifferent), and citizens (active and engaged).

He encouraged Nigerians to remain united and focused on building a better Nigeria.
