A fire outbreak has been reported at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in the Lekki Free Zone, near Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.

The cause of the inferno, which is currently raging, is yet to be determined.

A video shared on social media shows a thick dark smoke billowing from one of the tank storages in the facility.

The Dangote Oil Refinery, which began refining diesel in May 2023, is a 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) integrated refinery project located in the Lekki Free Zone.

The refinery was inaugurated on May 22, 2023, and is owned by the Dangote Group.
