Havertz and Musiala’s goals puts hosts through in a 2 nil win

Germany eased into the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 with a 2-0 victory against Denmark in Dortmund, courtesy of goals from Kai Havertz and the outstanding Jamal Musiala.

The risk of lightning stopped play for nearly 25 minutes in the first half, as the players were taken off the pitch and there was water leaking through the roof at Westfalenstadion, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side got the job done when the game resumed.

Not, though, before a big scare for the host nation. Joachim Andersen looked to have given Denmark the lead three minutes into the second half, only for the video assistant referee to rule the goal out for offside in the build-up.

Minutes later, up the other end, the same player conceded a penalty for handball, and Havertz scored from the spot to put Germany ahead.

Musiala then curled a shot past Kasper Schmeichel for his third goal of the tournament, making him joint top scorer at the Euros alongside Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze.

Germany will face the winner of Sunday’s match between Spain and Georgia in the quarterfinals.
