Chinua Achebe’s Daughter, Maureen, Wins Prestigious Harvard Medical School Award

Maureen Achebe, daughter of renowned novelist Chinua Achebe, has been honored with the 2024 Faculty Development and Diversity Award by Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

This prestigious recognition celebrates her outstanding contributions and commitment to diversity in the medical field.

Chidi Achebe shared the news, revealing that Maureen received the award notification in a letter from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a premier teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

In his post, Chidi expressed immense pride and gratitude, stating, “To God be the glory always! Ekenedili Chukwunna! Very big deal at Harvard! All glory to God!”

Maureen Okam-Achebe holds multiple prestigious roles, including President of AIDE Healthcare International, Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, Director of the Outpatient Infusion Centre at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Clinical Director of the Non-Malignant Hematology Clinic, and Director of the Sickle Cell Programme at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Additionally, she is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is triple-board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine.

An alumnus of the University of Port Harcourt Medical School and the M.T. Chan Harvard School of Public Health, Maureen’s achievements reflect her dedication to advancing medical education and healthcare.

Chidi Achebe concluded his post with heartfelt encouragement, saying, “Sweetie: Very proud of you. Keep on keeping on!”
