Professor Wole Soyinka, a global icon, turns 90 today Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka, known as Wole Soyinka, is a renowned Nigerian writer.
He is a gobally celebrated playwright, novelist, poet, essayist, actor, singer, composer, and documentarian. Born in Abeokuta, Ogun state, into a Yoruba family, he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first sub-Saharan African to be honoured in that category.
President Tinubu has renamed the National Theatre as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts in a birthday tribute.
