House of Rep members to reduce 50% salaries amidst nationwide hunger

The Nigerian House of Representatives has agreed to reduce their salaries by 50% for a six-month period.

This decision aims to demonstrate their commitment to sharing the burden of the current economic challenges faced by the country.

The motion, which was introduced by Representative Isiaka Ayokunle, sought to encourage dialogue instead of protests.

The salary reduction, proposed by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu, will amount to a total of N108 million monthly for the next six months.

The funds will be used to support government efforts to address the rising cost of living and provide relief to those affected.

The motion was adopted and referred to the relevant committees for implementation.
