The Nigerian military has issued a warning that it may take control of the situation if the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests continue to escalate into violence.

This statement was made by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, on Friday, in response to the widespread vandalism and looting that has occurred during the protests.

He emphasized the importance of peaceful demonstrations and cautioned that those engaging in destructive behavior would face legal consequences.

This warning is consistent with previous statements made by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who mentioned the possibility of involving the military if the situation becomes unmanageable.

He said, “We know we are challenged as a nation, but we will overcome by working together as Nigerians. Let us avoid actions that could bring chaos.

“Yesterday’s events were alarming, with people breaking into homes and stealing. We won’t allow this to continue. The Armed Forces and security agencies are ready to intervene professionally, and offenders will be prosecuted.”

He added, “Many believe looting is their only opportunity, but we have arrested those responsible and they will face legal consequences.”
