Following Gareth Southgate’s departure after the Euro 2024 final loss to Spain, Lee Carsley has been named interim manager of the England men’s football team.

Carsley, familiar with the players and international football cycle, aims to ensure continuity and secure promotion in the UEFA Nations League.

Carsley stated, “It’s an honour to lead this England squad on an interim basis… My main priority is to ensure continuity.”

Mark Bullingham, The FA’s CEO, praised Carsley as a “fantastic coach” with existing relationships with most of the senior squad, making him a strong interim solution. The FA expressed gratitude for Carsley’s willingness to manage the team during their ongoing recruitment process for a permanent manager.
