Abia Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh Faces Court Over Bolt Driver Assault

Alex Ikwechegh, a federal lawmaker from Abia State, will be arraigned at the Kuje Magistrate Court today at 12 noon. He is charged with assaulting Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver.

The incident occurred on October 27 at Ikwechegh’s Abuja residence. A viral video showed the lawmaker physically assaulting Abuwatseya during a delivery.

The Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit is handling the investigation and prosecution.

Following widespread condemnation, Ikwechegh apologized and pledged cooperation with the police. He is also seeking counseling.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, representing Abuwatseya, confirmed the arraignment and invited media coverage.
