Governor Alex Otti has publicly commended Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer Ugochukwu Orji for his outstanding display of integrity in rejecting a ₦10 million bribe from a fleeing ritual killing suspect.
During a special recognition event, Governor Otti praised Orji’s unwavering commitment to duty, describing his actions as a reflection of the values upheld by the people of Abia State. “What you did is typical of us; you represented us very, very well,” Otti stated, emphasizing that honesty and integrity remain the foundation of public service.
The suspect, Onyeka Obu, a self-styled native doctor accused of ritual killings in Enugu State, was intercepted at the Badagry-Seme border while attempting to flee Nigeria. In a desperate bid to escape justice, Obu allegedly offered Orji ₦10 million and an iPhone, but the officer refused the bribe and ensured the suspect was handed over to the authorities.
The suspect has since been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command and subsequently moved to Enugu for prosecution.
