Abuja Court Grants N10 Million Bail to 72 #EndBadGovernance Protesters, Most Defendants Are Minors

An Abuja Federal High Court has granted bail of N10 million each to 72 individuals accused of participating in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.

Presiding Judge Obiora Egwuatu set the bail conditions, requiring each defendant to provide two sureties in the same amount. One surety must be a civil servant at grade level 15 or above, residing within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other must be a parent of the defendant.

Originally, 76 defendants—most of whom are minors—were scheduled for arraignment. During the proceedings, many appeared unwell and undernourished.

Due to limited courtroom space, some minors were left standing outside the designated area, with four collapsing and needing immediate medical assistance. This led the judge to temporarily adjourn the session to restore order.

Upon resuming, the prosecution, as reported by TheCable, requested that the charges against the four affected minors be dropped. The remaining defendants were subsequently arraigned and entered not guilty pleas.

The 76 individuals, detained in Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano states, are facing charges of treason, among other alleged offenses.
