Nigeria’s Super Eagles have defeated Guinea-Bissau 1-0 in their last Group A match of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Eagles went into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over host Ivory Coast and were clear favourites against Guinea Bissau who had lost their opening 2 matches.

However, just like in the first 2 games, the Super Eagles failed to create clear-cut chances and were wasteful with the few they created, relying on an own goal from Opa Sangante in the 37th minute to clinch the win and pick all 3 points.

With the win, Nigeria qualified for the round of 16 but finished second in Group A as Equatorial Guinea finished with a superior goal difference, with both teams level on 7 points.

Equatorial Guinea were able to rack up their impressive goal difference thanks to their stunning 4-0 win over host Ivory Coast, with talisman Emilio Nsue scoring 2 goals to take his tournament tally to 5 and emerge clear favourites for the Golden Boot.

The 4-0 defeat for Ivory Coast is the biggest loss ever for a host nation in the history of AFCON.
