Air Peace has strongly condemned the conduct of Senator Adams Oshiomhole following an incident at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Zulu Terminal) in Lagos on Wednesday morning, describing his behavior as disruptive and unacceptable.
According to the airline, the altercation began when Senator Oshiomhole arrived late for a scheduled 6:30 a.m. flight to Abuja. By the time he reached the terminal around 6:10 a.m., the airline said boarding had already closed in line with its strict on-time departure policy, and the flight took off as scheduled. In a statement, Air Peace alleged that upon being informed of the missed flight, the senator became aggressive, assaulted staff, and disrupted operations by blocking the terminal entrance.
“Senator Oshiomhole physically assaulted our staff and forcefully barricaded the terminal’s entry point, preventing other passengers from gaining access to the departure hall,” the statement read. The incident reportedly caused delays for other travelers. The airline said it was forced to implement a contingency plan, rerouting passengers through an alternate terminal to minimize disruptions.
An Air Peace official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the senator created a chaotic scene, allegedly climbing onto a baggage conveyor belt and attempting to use airport seating to block access points. “He tried to disrupt our operations. He took laws into his hands. A senator?” the official remarked.
Despite acknowledging his late arrival, Oshiomhole reportedly claimed he had checked in online, a point the airline says does not override boarding time requirements. Air Peace expressed deep disappointment over the incident, especially given the senator’s public profile.
“We are disheartened that a public figure would behave in such a disruptive and aggressive manner. Air Peace maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards violence or any form of intimidation against our staff and passengers,” the airline stated. CCTV footage is believed to have captured the entire incident, and the matter may be subject to further review by airport authorities.
