Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has approved the payment of an N80,000 minimum wage to civil servants in the state, effective November 2024.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, on Tuesday in Uyo.

According to Udoh, the approval followed the submission of the Minimum Wage/Personnel Verification report by the Head of Service, Mr. Effiong Essien, on Monday.

The CPS clarified that the payment applies to 45,000 public service workers who have undergone the verification process.

“Governor Umo Eno has approved the commencement of the new minimum wage of N80,000 for 45,000 verified public service workers, starting at the end of this month but backdated to November 2024,” Udoh stated.

It is worth noting that the governor had set up a minimum wage implementation committee in December 2024 to ensure seamless payment.
