An explosion has been reported in Omwawriwa community, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, just hours after a similar incident at the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area.
The first explosion, which occurred at the Trans Niger Pipeline operated by Shell, sparked a fire that has since been extinguished. Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident and launched an investigation.
The latest blast in Omwawriwa has further heightened concerns over safety and security in Nigeria’s oil-producing regions. Officials are yet to confirm the cause of the explosions or whether they are linked.
The incidents come amid political unrest in Rivers State, following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency and the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retd.) as the state’s Administrator.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
