The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released after its monthly meeting in Ilesa on Sunday, January 26, the group, through its Organising and Publicity Secretary Oluwaseun Abosede, announced the decision to part ways with the APC. The resolution was supported unanimously by members across all 332 wards in Osun State, with internal conflicts within the APC cited as the main reason for their departure.
The group’s grievances include:
- Marginalization of its members from party activities
- The suspension and expulsion of leaders without due process
- Continuous undermining of the group’s structure
- Dissatisfaction with the handling of Osun APC’s internal crises, which contributed to its poor performance in the last elections.
In the statement, the group also expressed its readiness to align with another political faction ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Addressing the group, Aregbesola, the former Minister of Interior, commended the members for their unity and dedication to the principles of integrity and good governance. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and encouraged the group to welcome individuals from all political, religious, and socio-cultural backgrounds.
“We have the strength and political acumen to lead Osun to greater heights,” Aregbesola stated, expressing confidence in the group’s ability to chart a new path for the state. “By the grace of God, we shall succeed.”
