Asari Dokubo Warns Rivers Lawmakers Against Impeaching Governor Fubara

Former Niger Delta warlord, Asari Dokubo, has cautioned the Rivers State House of Assembly against any move to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Dokubo issued the warning in a post on his Facebook page, reacting to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s recent remarks mocking Fubara after the Supreme Court’s judgment.

The Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly, which had its legitimacy upheld by the Supreme Court on February 28, gave Fubara a 48-hour ultimatum to resubmit the 2025 budget for approval. The deadline expires today, March 5.

Dokubo warned that any attempt to remove Fubara would destabilize Rivers State, making it difficult even for Wike to return. He called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, urging him to rein in Wike.

“If in your government I have to stake everything to tell you the truth, I’m staking everything to tell you the truth. It is left for you to hear, but the result you will see,” Dokubo said.

He clarified that he harbored no personal grudge against Wike, stating, “I don’t have any personal problem with Wike. I hardly have personal problems with people. I say my mind. If you don’t like it, okay.”

Dokubo further warned that an impeachment attempt would face strong resistance.

“It will be difficult for those 27 House of Assembly members to even have a place to stay in Rivers State. It will be difficult for anybody if they think they are going to impeach Sim (Fubara) and Ijaw people will allow it,” he said.

He emphasized that removing Fubara was not an option, citing past resistance from the Ijaw people in Ondo and Delta states.

“The earlier you hear this, call Wike and call Sim. Let them maintain the status quo. That is the only way,” he concluded.
