At least twelve people are feared dead in Yar Tasha village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, following a suspected bomb explosion this morning. According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a commercial vehicle, transporting passengers to Dansadau town, hit an explosive device believed to have been planted by bandits.
This marks the second time in a week that an explosive device has been found along the Dansadau Road. Just last Sunday, a similar device exploded beneath an 18-seater bus, killing the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
A resident of Yar Tasha, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the driver of a Volkswagen Golf ran into the device, triggering an immediate explosion that tore the vehicle apart. “We recently worked on the road, and the bandits took advantage of that to plant the device at one of the spots,” the resident said.
The victims were taken to Dansadau General Hospital, but their current condition remains unknown. Security forces, including soldiers and police, have been deployed to the scene.
The resident added that it seems the bandits in Zamfara State have adopted a new strategy, particularly in the Dansadau area. “This is the second device planted in this area in a week. The government must take swift action to end this trend, or traveling by road will become increasingly dangerous for the people of the state,” they urged, emphasizing the need for vigilance among both security personnel and local communities.
