Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sounded the alarm on the judiciary’s recent actions in the Rivers State case, warning against decisions that could inflame tensions and destabilize the state.

Atiku expressed concern over the Federal High Court’s ruling, which ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to halt payments to Rivers State, despite the state’s pending appeal.

“The judiciary must remain impartial and avoid being manipulated by external forces,” Atiku stressed. “The Rivers State government has already filed a notice of appeal, and it’s alarming that some elements within the federal government are attempting to undermine the Supreme Court.”

Atiku praised the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, for taking swift action by summoning judges involved in the case. However, he emphasized the need for accountability and disciplinary action against any judges found wanting.

“The judiciary’s integrity is at stake,” Atiku concluded. “It’s crucial that the institution upholds justice, fairness, and the rule of law to maintain public trust.”
