Bashir El-Rufai Praises Peter Obi, Says His View Was “Poisoned” by Former Party

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed a surprising shift in his opinion about Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bashir admitted that his previous perception of Obi was influenced by members of his former party. “Peter Obi is surprisingly not a bad person after all. My views on him have changed recently. My mind was poisoned by my former party members,” he wrote.

His statement comes shortly after his father, Nasir El-Rufai, resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Bashir further fueled speculation about Obi’s political future when he responded to a comment about the SDP’s chances in the 2027 election without Obi. “He is coming,” he replied, hinting at a possible move by Obi to the SDP.

These developments suggest potential shifts in Nigeria’s political landscape as former rivals reconsider their alliances ahead of future elections.
