In response to the devastating violence that claimed the lives of over 200 people in Benue State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reached out directly to Governor Hyacinth Alia, urging swift and decisive action to restore peace and stability in the region.

The President, in a phone call described as “frank and urgent,” expressed deep sorrow over the killings and emphasized the need for a dual-track approach: a robust security crackdown on perpetrators and a grassroots reconciliation effort among affected communities.

“The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated,” President Tinubu stated. He directed security agencies to act decisively and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Governor Alia, in response, assured the President and the people of Benue that peace-building efforts are already underway. He pledged to convene immediate dialogue among farmers, herders, and community leaders to address the root causes of the conflict and prevent further escalation.

Security forces have been deployed to the affected areas, and intelligence chiefs are coordinating operations on the ground to stabilize the situation.
